When the whole house backs up at once, it is rarely the sink. It is the pipe that carries everything away.

A problem with your main sewer pipe feels bigger than a single clogged drain, because it is. We clean and repair sewer lines for homes in Barrie. You tell us what is happening, and we look, explain the options and give you a price before we begin.
What you may be noticing
Gurgling in the floor drain, a bad smell in the basement, water backing up in the lowest fixture, or several drains slowing down together. These are common signs your sewer line needs attention.
Sewer cleaning
When the line is blocked by a build-up inside, cleaning it out is often enough. We clear the pipe, tell you what we found and advise whether the line looks healthy or needs more work. Cleaning does not always mean the pipe is damaged.
Sewer repair
If the pipe is cracked, broken, shifted or collapsing, cleaning only helps for a short while. We explain what is wrong and the repair choices open to you, so you can compare the cost of repair against repeat cleaning.
On the day
We keep you updated and keep the workspace clean. You will not have to guess what is happening, because we talk you through each step.
While you wait for us
Hold off on laundry, dishwashers and long showers. Every drop you run goes toward the same blocked line. Keep children and pets away from any water that has come up through a floor drain.

Questions we get asked
Should I stop using water if I suspect a sewer problem?
Yes. Avoid the washer, dishwasher, showers and baths until we have looked, because that water has nowhere to go and may come up in the lowest drain. One flush is generally fine, but do not keep testing. Keep the area clear and call us.
How do I clear access to the sewer cleanout before you arrive?
Look in the basement near where the main pipe leaves the house for a capped fitting, usually on the floor or low on the wall. Move storage, boxes and furniture away so we have room to work. Do not open it yourself if water is backing up.
Can wipes and grease cause a sewer blockage?
Yes. Wipes, grease, paper towels and hygiene products collect in the main line and build up. Grease cools and sticks to the pipe walls. Only toilet paper should go down the toilet and no fats down the sink. This is one of the most avoidable causes.
What does a sewer smell in my basement mean?
A sewer smell can come from a dry floor drain trap, a cracked pipe, or a line that is partly blocked. Pouring water into a rarely used drain sometimes helps if the trap was dry. If the smell stays, call us to look at the line.
Is sewer cleaning enough, or will I need a repair?
Cleaning is enough when the pipe is sound and a blockage built up inside. If the problem returns soon after, or the pipe is damaged, repair is the longer-term answer. We explain what we find, so you can choose with the facts.
Will my home insurance cover a sewer backup?
That depends on your policy, and we cannot speak for your insurer. Some policies include sewer backup cover and some need an added option. Check with your insurer, and take photos of any damage. We can describe the work we did.
Why does my sewer back up after heavy rain?
Heavy rain can add to what the system carries, and a line that is already narrow or damaged has less room for it. If a backup happens only in wet weather, tell us. It helps us decide where to look and what to suggest.
